Show Notes

“You cannot truly listen to anyone and do anything else at the same time.”

– M. Scott Peck, The Road Less Traveled: A New Psychology of Love, Traditional Values and Spiritual Growth

Experience producing exceptional clinical outcomes, Kintinu Telerehab connects recovery to everyday life. In this podcast, we explore hot topics in rehabilitation, the keys to personal growth and recovery, and how to apply it all to the real-world.

We are constantly trying to be more efficient and “multi-task.” What may come as a surprise is that we are quite ineffective at juggling more than one thing at a time. What does this have to do with relationship building? In conversation, we are easily distracted by our own thoughts or our environment effectively forcing us to choose between information sharing and active listening.

Active listening is different than hearing, as one is intentional and hearing is more passive in nature.

In this episode of Kintinu’d Conversations, Brad Dexter, Ana Hancock, and Tim Benak welcome back Jill Guenther to the podcast to continue the conversation about Relationship Building with a special emphasis on active listening. Jill has been with Kintinu’s parent company, QLI, for a total of 25 years. Within that time, Jill has held several crucial roles that have shaped QLI’s culture and clinical program and has spent much of her career studying and learning about what goes into the skill of “relationship building.” Currently, Jill serves as the Director of Skill Building and is one of the first people to welcome a new team member to the company.

In a society where technology is front and center, virtual interactions are more prevalent but met with skepticism as they relate to personal connection. Listeners will hear perspectives on both approaches and hear about the importance of identifying interferences to promote active listening as well as actionable ways to improve this skill.

Enjoy!
